EVOLUTION OF SASK: (Sri Aurobindo Sadhana Kendra (SASK))
When the buiding was heavily damaged by earthquake in January 2001, the location of the Centre had again to be shifted. At that time Shri Mohanbhai Patel, a senior sadhak, was kind enough to offer the first storey of his bungalow at 53, Sharda Nagar Society, to the Centre to hold its activities.[See Photographs-Photo Gallery section]
Devotees regularly participating in the activities and visitors coming occasionally to the Centre felt the need for having a building of its own for the Centre. Consequently Sri Auro-Ma Trust was formed. Right from the beginning, late Shri Dyumanbhai, Managing Trustee of Sri Aurobindo Ashram Trust, Puducherry was a source of guidance in the formation of the Trust to run the Centre and in creating modalities for organizing the Centre. Late Shri Lallubhai Patel, an advanced sadhak at Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Puducherry, greatly helped the Centre in various ways. Late Shri Ambapremi Shah, the first chairman of SAT, also took deep interest in the formation of the Trust and carrying out activities of the Centre.
By the grace of the Divine Mother Mahalaxmi, money started flowing in for the project with initial offering of rupees ten lakh from a devotee. Another devotee sold her precious valuables and offerd the money to Sri Auro-Ma Trust[SAT]. Late Shri Punamchand Shah made all his efforts to materialize the idea of having Trust's own building for the Centre. Forthcoming Events February 28, 2010 - Sunday : Auroville Foundation Day : 6.30 to 7.15 pm  - Video Presentation of "Building Matrimandir".

One Cʘsmos: Evolving Under the Banyan Tree with the Holy Spirit By Gagdad Bob
I have said before that in my view Aurobindo was (without knowing it) very much "Christianizing" Vedanta, no doubt because of his western education at Cambridge, in which he absorbed not only Christianity and evolutionism (which was all the rage at the time -- and not just the Darwinian kind), but the whole Western canon.
Other methods of yoga are purely "ascending" paths, like, say Plotinus in the West. Only Aurobindo's is a descending, this-worldly path, the goal of which is to "divinize" oneself and creation -- very much analogous to the Christian goal of personal theosis and of redeeming the world. This is not to immamentize the eschaton, in which the distinction between transcendence and immanence is obliterated and man is made God. Rather, it is to live in the dynamic space between them.
And I fully accept Aurobindo's thesis that in order for there to have been an evolution, there must have been a prior involution. This idea is concordant with hermetic Christianity and Kabbalah, and basically means that God is both the ladder and the goal.

Over at Love of All Wisdom Amod has an interesting post up on OOO and Asian thought…
A while ago I noted that South Asian and East Asian thought are in many respects further from each other than they are from the West, and I’d like to expand on the point in the context of Speculative Realism. A central concern, possibly the central concern, of Indian (or more generally South Asian) thought has been the psychology of the human subject. One begins with the suffering subject, already conceived in some sense as separate from the world, and then that subject tries to detach even further from the world. The Yoga Sūtras and the Jainism of the Tattvārtha Sūtra take us even further than Descartes: we are trying to become pure subjectivity. Even Pali Buddhism, focused on the subject’s unreality, nevertheless focuses its attention on the inner subjective world. Reality in the Pali suttas is composed of five “aggregates”; only one of these (rūpa, matter or form) is physical, while the other four are all primarily within the mind. I’m not sure that this all is correlationist per se, but it is anthropocentric and privileges the subject in ways the Speculative Realists seem to oppose.
