Ballet is beautiful Indian Express - ‎Feb 8, 2010‎
Dance is what we do when we let our bodies breathe our being into becoming and our becoming into being,” feels Ellen Davis who has been teaching classical ballet to children, adults and professionals for over 30 years. She uses dance as a way of evoking self-acceptance, beauty, balance, grace, a sense of unity and love for the process of learning… On her coming to Chandigarh, Ellen says that she is here in response to an inner calling to serve in a way that her soul feels brightest. Twelve years ago she lived and taught ballet at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry and it was a wonderful experience for her. She loved being there, and her travels through Southern India, Orissa, Calcutta, Shanti Niketan, and Bodh Gaya. Ellen enjoys teaching both children and adults and she has classes available for all at ‘Pause’, an activity club in Manimajra. Adults and older children and teens are more immediately engaged and consciously collaborate in their learning process, mentions Ellen.

Just as the world of matter is dominated by the essential principles of matter, density, solidity, darkness and inconscience, at the next level, where the principle of the Life-Energy is the characteristic element, we see the dominant principle of energy, desire, vital outreach and seeking, the play of vital attraction and repulsion. In this case, the action of Mind and the action of Matter both become subordinated to the primary attributes of this vital life energy and thus, the essential relationship between the three terms is different than that in the world of Matter.
One would naturally expect that in the vital-dominated world of Life-Energy, material forms are much more fluid and take new shapes and respond to the demands of the desire-force. Similarly the Mind works to enhance and carry out the vital will of life.
This level is above the level of Matter and one can say that it has its own substance and occupies its own unique niche in the series between Matter and Spirit. reference: Sri Aurobindo, The Life Divine, Chapter 26, The Ascending Series of Substance
Jung’s Psychology of the Living God and Transformation of Individual and Community: Part IV B—by David Johnston Comment posted by: auroman
I was referring to so-called Sadhaks who pose as "Practitioners of Integral Yoga" in order to stay in the Ashram but do not (and never) accept Sri Aurobindo and the Mother as their Guru.
I do not reject the Mother's quotes but I vehemently object to your tendency to attribute *everything* to the evil persona. It may have applied to you at some point in your life (which is why you feel so strongly about it) but it doesn't necessarily follow that it applies to me at this point in my life. It is quite possible that I have some opening and some vision into the underlying reality, and therefore I can ignore all these quotes that you keep forcing down my throat. How do you know this particular quote is valid to this particular individual? Only a Guru can know that.
Comment posted by: Kepler Hi Paulette, I can understand auroman’s perspective. Clearly the ideas of “the shadow” and the evil persona resonate deeply with you, and since Mother and Sri Aurobindo did indeed comment on these subject you seem bewildered that others don’t feel that same resonance.
But they commented on so many subjects. Another person may instead focus on their extensive statements concerning the “sunlit path”, concentrating fully on the luminous things one wants to become, forgetting as far as possible all one wants to leave behind (to paraphrase one comment by Mother). Others might find some other topic more meaningful and helpful for their sadhana, e.g. the importance of bhakti, surrender, and humility before the Divine (or human representative of the Divine) – and point to many comments by Sri Aurobindo or Mother on that subject.
The point is that although it’s great to carefully read what Mother and Sri Aurobindo have said or written on any topic – there’s a big zone of interpretation where each one has to emphasize for themselves the themes that help them. Pushing one’s own favorite emphasis on others can come across as dogmatic and insensitive. It is perfectly possible to have read all Sri Aurobindo and Mother have said, and not conclude that the evil persona is the central theme of critical importance to comprehending or practicing their teaching and sadhana – at least not when viewed alongside so many other themes they have also stressed with the same or more emphasis. This of course doesn’t mean you shouldn’t consider it to be so if that gives you clarity and force in your own practice – but not everyone will share your perspective – not out of stubbornness, but out of their own psychology and nature which differs from yours. Kepler
