Savitri as Sri Aurobindo left it

April 13 at Sri Aurobindo Institute of Culture, 3 Regent Park; 6 pm: Sri Aurobindo Institute of Culture, in collaboration with the department of information & cultural affairs, Government of West Bengal and Rabindra Bharati University, presents Basanta Utsav. Participating groups: Rabindra Bharati University, Surangama, Bhowanipore Baikali Association, and Dakshin Kolkata Nandaniki. 
Bimbavati Devi and her vibrant troupe from the North-east will present several classical Manipuri items as well as two special compositions, Matrika and Anubhavaamah. Matrika is a choreographic rendition based on the compositions of Rabindranath Tagore, Sri Aurobindo and Bankim Chandra. An impassioned invocation of matri shakti, the mother archetype is hailed for her supreme power, grace and beauty. Matrika, the golden womb, embodies vidya or learning, gyan or knowledge, Kamala or abundance and Durga or divine omnipotence. She is karuna, ever kind and forgiving, and the unwavering protector of her children. This work incorporates all the aspects of Manipuri dance – classical, folk and the Manipuri martial art of thang-ta.
