The Great Change: My COP15 Journal: Day Five By Peaksurfer No sooner had the dust alighted on the mirror polished by Sister Joan, than up popped the master of the Sri Aurobindo ashram in Pondicherry, Sraddhalu Ranade, who, speaking without notes, dissected all the religious traditions of India in much the same way. Speaking without notes, Ranade said that “Each one having his own way to find awakening does not find the manifestation of the divinity in every form and every thing.”
But its okay, he said. “We recognize our limitations. The Eastern religions specialized in an other-worldly spirituality. The Western ones specialized in a real-life mastery. Vizag or Pondy on departure? - India Travel Forum IndiaMike.com By displaceddesi Don't know India well enough to give you any useful advice but I did go to Aurobindo. The place puzzled me, it seemed to be the Westerners idea of what an ashram should be, recreating the Californian hippy preconception of peace & tranqility. We had to form orderly queues for everything, no talking or laughing, in fact dour, completely humourless & lacking in soul. After the chaos of Tirupati it was a stark, uncomfortable experience. I do realise they do a lot of good for the local community but, it it India?

Smelling India (and then some): delhi continued By Galen We are staying at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, where we stayed when we first arrived in Delhi. It's amazing to be in the same place because everything is so different. I feel like I actually see the ashram now; the surrounding community and the layout of the rooms are recognizable. It's interesting. I'm staying in a room with my dear friend Isabelle, which is lovely because it's freezing and we have a pile of wool blankets and FLEECE LINED SLEEPING BAGS to sleep in.
