Welcome to the Statesman
Beyond books Studies~ no, not that boring term again but it turned into a fun session when the students of The Future Foundation School and Arun Nursery presented a 'Learning Pageant' for this year. It is an approach by the school to help the learners improve their reasoning power and know the unknown. The chief guest for this event was Dr. Saugat Mukherjee, regional director, eastern region, Confederation of Indian Industries while the guest of honour was handed over to Sunita Sen, the Principal of Ballygunj Shiksha Sadan. They encouraged the students on becoming the liable citizens of the future as they shared their path towards prominence with the budding aspirants.

Inspired by Sri Aurobindo, the school looks forward to build up a student's mentality for the world outside and allow them to develop a wider prospect towards life. This year the event was a little different as it aimed at breaking the barrier of studies. Bihan Sengupta, Class XII Future Foundation School.

Puducherry: Thousands of devotees from all over the country and abroad thronged the Sri Aurobindo Ashram here to pay homage to Saint Philosopher Sri Aurobindo on his 59th 'Mahasamadhi Day'' today.
A mass meditation was organised by the Ashramites to mark the occasion.
The rooms used by Sri Aurobindo and the mother were thrown open for public darshan today.

We have been devotees of The Mother and Sri Aurobindo for four generations and we try, as far as possible to go by their teachings. I, on my part have a long, long way to go. Maybe this lifetime will not be enough for me to be a true devotee. The pull of external world becomes too much to resist. I am happy to be in this community

But I also have a mission. There are people dwelling in indifferent levels of consciousness, and our effort is to point them, however modestly, to the path of self discovery. At least they have taken a turn, in the right direction. I feel we have to still talk to them in the language they understand, or are beginning to understand. The Divine Mother plays a prominent role in Eastern religions, especially Hinduism. In his essay, The Mother, Sri Aurobindo says “the Mother is one but she comes before us with differing aspects.” There are four major aspects of the Mother Divine. Maheshwari, Mahakali, Mahasaraswati, and Mahalakshmi. These different aspects of the transcendental Mother have different qualities and perform different functions. One relationship is dominating world consciousness today. Our relationship with money. And a whole lot of us are facing the prospect of a break-up in this relationship. Is there an inherent flaw in the relationship which we are not able to see? “The seekers or keepers of wealth are more often possessed rather than its possessors,” Sri Aurobindo wrote in ‘The Mother.’ In a section on money he points out what should be our true relation with this universal force called money: “All wealth belongs to the Divine and those who hold it are trustees, not possessors. I was reading Sri Aurobindo's Savitri- the epic poem running some 9000 lines over almost 875 pages. This magnum opus can hardly be fathomed or completely read through in the life time of ordinary mortal like me. However, I literally stumbled over this page today and read what the Sage had seen in his seer vision (ref: Jaipur blast). Today's news features an interview with Rakhal from the Resident's Assembly Service about a gathering on Thursday, November 19th. The central questions for this gathering are: What is Auroville? It is debatable whether Sri Aurobindo's work can be called Vedantic at all (if one was to take the Mother's formulation of it)

And where has Sri Aurobindo (or the Mother) said that his work is dependent on the Vedanta?
His interpreting the Veda, the Vedanta and the Gita does not make his work dependent on these. Where possible, he has also coined a new language. The Life Divine does not mention avatar or the sacrifice of the Purusha (as far as I know).

If other works do, we must take it that these concepts are handy to express what is important to his experience and woul have taken many more volumes of words otherwise. Again, the essence of "incarnation" as understood in Christianity does not find any representation in the Indic idea of avatarhood. But Sri Aurobindo sees some truth in the idea and brings it out in Savitri. It is debatable whether his work can be called Vedantic at all (particularly if one was to take the Mother's formulation of it). 9:09 AM
