It took me 27 years to discover this oasis of peace

Auromira Yoga: ANGER By Dr. Ramesh Bijlani
However, psychologists today, on the whole, favour suppression, and so did Sri Aurobindo. In one of his letters to a disciple, he wrote, “If you give expression to anger, you prolong or confirm the habit of the recurrence of anger; .... Such anger may not be good for the coronaries of the person who is angry, but it is good for the society. But one also has to learn that one cannot correct everything that is wrong with the world. Therefore one must choose one's battles ... DR. RAMESH BIJLANI
A product of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Dr. Ramesh Bijlani joined on the faculty of his alma mater in 1977, and became Professor and Head of the Department of Physiology in 1996. After obtaining a master’s degree in nutrition from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA in 1979, he engaged in research on diet in relation to cardiovascular disease and diabetes for more than 25 years. In the year 2000, he was instrumental in establishing at AIIMS a patient care facility for providing courses on yoga for prevention and management of chronic disease in tune with the latest advances in mind-body medicine. Prof. Bijlani is the author of 12 books, more than 200 research articles, and more than 40 popular articles. He took voluntary retirement from AIIMS in 2005 to find more time for disseminating yoga. He has been speaking on yoga and related subjects for more than 10 years. Currently he is attached to Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Delhi Branch, where he gives talks and conducts programs on yoga. VIEW MY COMPLETE PROFILE
How I discovered Sri Aurobindo and the Mother
I joined AIIMS as an MBBS student in 1965, and spent 40 years there, almost without a break. Sri Aurobindo Ashram – Delhi Branch is less than 4 km from AIIMS, but it took me 27 years to discover this oasis of peace. And, it is not that I was blind to matters religious or spiritual. Before I went to the ashram, I had done a decent amount of study on these subjects, and had tried to construct mentally an ethical code by which I had tried to live my life. But being a rationalist, I had generally kept away from places of worship as well as any rituals or ceremonies. Anyway, I went to Sri Aurobindo Ashram for the first time in 1992 on a Sunday morning at
10 am for a satsang. The discourse was good, but what impressed me more was the cleanliness, order, punctuality, and the intense spiritual energy of the place. Moreover, there seemed to be no obvious or mandatory rituals, customs or dress code. In short, the emphasis was on what is within you, rather than on the surface. POSTED BY DR. Psychological Cycle and Evolution of Civilization: Sri Aurobindo on History
Sri Aurobindo unlocked the essentials of his new message for humanity and its glorious prospect predominantly through his writings which reflected his brilliance as an academician, poet, philosopher, revolutionary, patriot, creative thinker and above all, a Maha-yogi. Most of all, he found space in his textual treatise to analyze the process of historical evolution that has taken place in our nation through ages. Many of us have either ignored or not properly accounted his perspectives on history. He used History purposefully. The patriotic fervour that glittered in him sought to prepare his fellow beings to break the yoke of alien forces of all types. He used History to accomplish this end. This study seeks to understand the contemporary epistemological relevance of his views on History.
Sri Aurobindo’s writings are superb because of his masterful command over the English language, foolproof control over vocabulary, sharp intellect, yogic insight and love for humanity. C.R. Das once called him “the poet of patriotism, the prophet of nationalism and a lover of humanity”. His vibrant patriotic zeal caused Lord Minto to regard him as “the most dangerous man we now have to reckon with.” Aurobindo’s patriotic temper broke the boundaries of British political tolerance; he was imprisoned from 1908 to 1909. This became a turning point in his life as Arabinda Ghosh [Sri Aurobindo] underwent a series of spiritual experiences that changed the course of his life. After release from detention, he commented that the only result of the wrath of the British Government was that “I found God”.
As in other social sciences, in history too, scholars have a Eurocentric approach which has crippled the knowledge system. To Indians, epistemology as a whole is an integral portion of spiritualism. “With us religion is the only ground along which we can move... the Hindu can understand even politics when it is given through religion; sociology must come through religion, everything must come through religion” [1]. Religion to the Indians is not mere outward exercise, but a spiritual state of mind to fit for realization of the Ultimate [2]…
Sri Aurobindo was not a historian. As patriot and seer he dreamed of a prosperous and powerful India, and used history for his divine mission. He identified our lapses in the approach to history - ancestral disrespect as well as modern Euro-centric approach. The courts of ancient India had no paid or professional chroniclers. Thus history has not been recorded as in the West, but this does not mean that the art of history was entirely neglected.

A talk by Sraddhalu Ranade at Savitri Bhavan on Saturday February 20.
The Psychic realisation is the first of three realisations aimed at in the Integral Yoga. The psychic being is the evolving representative of the Divine Truth deep within each of us. When it can open and come forward to lead the whole life, it may produce a first transformation of the whole nature, and prepares the way towards the spiritual and supramental realisations.
Sraddhalu Ranade has grown up in the Sri Aurobindo Ashram under the guidance of his mentor the late M.P. Pandit, and is a much appreciated speaker on the Integral Yoga worldwide. [This week you are invited to read: The birth of Auroville]

Simply superb! And this was before they met! In other words, they both had already covered the Path of Ascent. Their coming together, on 29 March 1914, therefore marks the beginning of the Path of Descent, the work for which they had come, and the work which they had to do together.
It is most unfortunate that these aspects are missing in the Lives of Sri Aurobindo published by the Columbia University Press; in fact there cannot be anything more ridiculous than saying Sri Aurobindo was busy with the Ascent towards Supermind during the period 1914-25. Perceptive students of Sri Aurobindo’s works must be careful about such misrepresentations, if not falsifications. And thanks, Auroman. ~ RYD

Savitri rewards multiple readings

Your Bridge to Spiritual Evolution and Higher Consciousness ... by private stefan blog

A disappointing experiment: review the recent scholarship (2005 and onward) on Aurobindo's great poem, Savitri. A quick keyword search reveals so little of critical substance, and so much of a speculative castles-in-the-clouds variety, or worse.
Savitri rewards multiple readings. It is a product of an interesting (and well-documented) time and place. There is a paucity of useful scholarship on it. For these reasons and others, it seems a very good object for a dissertation in English Lit or Cultural Studies. The hyperbolic claims made on its behalf by certain of its partisans (making of the text a cult object) constitute another question entirely.
In order for the human being to evolve beyond the limits of mind, there must be some “link” or “connection” that opens up the possibility of an evolution of consciousness. We try to develop the powers of mind through education, training, and experience, and in some cases, outstanding results are obtained, but all within what one might call the framework of mentality. Geniuses and prodigies clearly have developed, either through some kind of innate capability or through specialised training, and more likely through a combination of both of them, abilities that seem far out of reach to those of us with what might be termed the “ordinary” powers of mental application.
