People who circulate these letters into the public domains have no clue about responsible behavior

Heritage walk organised by Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage Thronging the past: Heritage walk participants visit the house, in Puducherry on Friday, in which Sri Aurobindo lived.
PUDUCHERRY: Much has been said and written about Sri Aurobindo's life in Pondicherry. But how often do you get a chance to visit the exact places, where he lived? In connection with the centenary of Sri Aurobindo's arrival in the seaside town, the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) organised a heritage walk, to three of the many houses that Sri Aurobindo resided in, in the 40 years (1910 – 1950).
INTACH's co-convener Ashok Panda, and Hardie, an Ashramite, regaled the walkers with interesting anecdotes.
The first house Aurobindo hid in was the Shankar Chetty House on Vysial Street. The house still stands and is inhabited, although with a few alterations.
Those on the walk could also visit the second floor room, where Aurobindo lived, which is still intact. There also exists a shaft of sorts, extending from the ground floor to the second floor, which was perhaps used for urgent communication with the house owners.
The Raghav Chetty House on Rue St. Louis, where Sri Aurobindo lived from 1911 to 1913, was the place where he, along with Subramania Bharati, Mandayam Srinivasachariar and others used to hold eclectic discussions.
The entrance to his room, was also blocked by a cupboard, whenever the police arrived, Hardie revealed, pointing to the room.
Two houses in which he resided, on Suffren Street and Mission Street, do not exist anymore. In 1922, he moved to the Guest House on Rue Francois Martin which the walkers visited, and then to the main Ashram building.
The balcony overlooking Rue Saint Gilles was where he gave his darshan from, until 1950.
The Initial Development of the Mental Consciousness by sriaurobindostudies
Sri Aurobindo points out “In the human mind there is the first hope of understanding, discovery, a free comprehension; here we might seem to be coming to the possibility of self-knowledge and world-knowledge. But in fact our mind can at ...
As a result of this somewhat extended review of this chapter of Sri Aurobindo’s Life Divine, we can see that “the conception of a divine Mind and Will creating the cosmos becomes justifiable, while at the same time the perplexing elements in it which our reasoning mentality refuses to ascribe to an arbitrary fiat of the Creator, find their explanation as inevitable phenomena of a Consciousness emerging with difficulty out of its opposite–but with the mission to override these contrary phenomena and manifest by a slow and difficult evolution its greater reality and true nature.”

India’s Princely states covered nearly 40% of the Indian subcontinent at the time of Indian independence, and they collapsed after the departure of the British. This book provides a chronological analysis of the Princely State in colonial times and its post-colonial legacies. It focuses on one of the largest and most important of these states, the Princely State of Mysore, and offers a novel interpretation and thorough investigation of the relationship of king and subject in South Asia.
Using a combination of historical and anthropological methodologies and based upon substantial archival and field research, the author argues that the idea of kingship lived on in South India and continues to play a vital and important role in contemporary South Indian social and political life. Telling tales Times of India Mar 31, 2010 Writing a historical account is a relatively easy task. But what about making a novel out of it? Author Arup Mitra, who was recently in the city to launch his book Uttara Yogi, says that writing a historical novel is both interesting and exciting.
“In 1870, Swami Vasudeva of the Nagai Japat community made a momentous prediction. He said that the Uttara Yogi (a yogi from the north) would settle in south India and help the country gain liberation from foreign rule. It took 40 years for his prediction to come true. On April 4, 1910, Aurobindo Ghose settled in Pondicherry and after publicising his political agendas, dedicated himself to spiritual endeavours,” explains Arup.
“But my book is not a biography of the life of Aurobindo. It’s a story of how Swami Vasudeva’s prediction came true. It’s a dramatic account of his life,” he adds.
So, what inspired him to pen this novel? “My interest in Aurobindo led me to write a novel on his life. No one has attempted to sketch his life and I thought if I wrote a novel on his life, instead of a biography, I could get readers of all age groups to take interest in his philosophy. This book takes the readers back to the pre-independence era and explains what patriotism, adventure, love and betrayal are. It’s a perfect read for the layman,” he says.
Ask him if penning a historical novel was a difficult job and he replies, “Au contraire (on the contrary), it’s quite an easy job to write novels on gurus and ancient people because very little is known about them. An author can take the creative liberty of imagining certain sections of their lives. But writing a novel on people from recent times is a laborious task. Their lives are well chronicled and it will be inappropriate for writers to let their imagination run wild.”
For Arup Mitra, who has written books like A Letter to Mother and In search of the Lotus Feet, Chennai isn’t new. “I spend most of my time in Pondicherry and travel to Chennai often. It’s like a second home for me,” he smiles.
With Uttara Yogi having hit the stands, Arup is already busy with its sequel. “The sequel will chronicle events in Aurobindo’s life until he passed away. And yes, I’m enjoying my trip through pre-independent India!” he smiles. V Lakshmi

That is why I have held out for an impersonal, fairly and scholarly edited "critical edition" of Savitri which reports exactly what changes have been made to every word, why they were made, and the exact reasons for making them. That would only be fair and honest. Anything less than that is an attempt to hijack this extremely important sacred text, saying "My version is the best simply because I was in the right place and time to edit it in 1992-93." That does not make any sense to me. Posted by Cosmic Piper to Savitri Era Open Forum at 9:31 AM, April 01, 2010
From Aurobindo Ghose to Sri Aurobindo: photographic exhibition APROPOS THE EXHIBITION
This exhibition takes place in the cadre of the Auroville celebrations of Sri Aurobindo’s Centenary Arrival in Pondicherry. With the exception of two statements by the Mother, all the texts displayed are from Sri Aurobindo – including when they are written in the third person, as he commonly did when writing about himself. Even when he signed as Kali, this is Sri Aurobindo. Unless otherwise specified, most texts are reproduced from the book “Autobiographical Notes and Other Writings of Historical Interest,” vol.36, CWSA, which are on display. So are most of the printouts from which I have made the selection, which is on display for general consultation.
As the publisher clarified, “This volume consists of (1) notes in which Sri Aurobindo corrected statements made by biographers and other writers about his life and (2) various sorts of material written by him that are of historical importance. The historical material includes personal letters written before 1927 (as well as a few written after that date), public statements and letters on national and world events, and public statements about his ashram and system of yoga.”
THE PURPOSE OF AVATARHOOD IN THE LIGHT OF VEDANTA is composed of excerpts taken from “Essays on the Gita,” and ONENESS – THE INTEGRAL YOGA OF KNOWLEDGE, of excerpts taken from “The Synthesis of Yoga” (see attachments). Most of the selected texts are autobiographical, or explanatory of Sri Aurobindo’s views and goals. I have deliberately added these two large texts, and made printouts for an easy reading, because of their extraordinary importance regarding Sri Aurobindo’s and Mother’s path of Integral Yoga and the very nature and mission of the Avatar.
Also on display is “Homage to Sri Aurobindo,” a faithful reproduction of all the photographs and texts for the 1972 Sri Aurobindo Centenary exhibition, which the ashramite Kittu Reddy had put together on the Mother’s request. The Mother went through every text and photograph and asked for them to be published in a book as well.
The two large photographs, each 44 x 66 inches in size, were taken by the renowned photographer Henri Cartier Bresson. After having withdrawn to his room in 1926, this was the only time that Sri Aurobindo allowed himself to be photographed.
All my gratitude goes to the Sri Aurobindo Ashram Trust, the Ashram Archives and the Dept. of Physical Education that have made this exhibition possible, kindly providing the printing of Sri Aurobindo’s photos according to the same arrangement that the Ashram has with all the Sri Aurobindo Centres. As a personal request, for copyright reasons, no photographs are to be taken of this exhibition. Thanks for respecting this.
