Our Adventures: Adventures in Alleppey: photos, text to follow ... By Marc & Rae
This year Rae and I are kinda really changing our lives. We are going to be flying to
India for five weeks at the end of January. The purpose of this journey is to have the time, to as Rae says "reset ourselves." By reseting we mean looking at alternative ways to live. We hope that Southern India and particularly Auroville, near Pondicherry, will help us achieve this objective. On our return we will be converting our white panel van into a camper and wondering off, picking-up boat maintenance and repair work as we travel. We will also be available as crew in order to build up our sea miles and sailing experience.
India: The First Two Months « Showering out of a bucket, living ... By Alex
In the 1960s, Sri Aurobindo, one of
India’s great revolutionary seers, decided that life was full of immorality. He thus conceived the idea for a city that was to act as an experiment in human unity. Somewhere that displaced the importance of material desires. A so-called ‘Township Utopia’ in the making. A place where ‘the only authority is the supreme truth.’ You get the picture.

I have forgiven Auroville for their horrible, mindless bureaucracy after seeing inside the Matrimandir. Oh my God, it is possibly one of the most brilliant places I have ever been inside. From the viewing point outside, about 500 metres away, it looks like a giant gold golf ball, but one close inspection, it is a shimmering jewel of elaborate craftmanship. Inside, it is even more stunning.

'Central Will' from INSPIRATIONS by Transformation_S_8
Sweet Mother, I was waiting for things to be well established in me before writing you again. An important change has occurred: it seems that something in me has 'clicked' - what Sri Aurobindo calls the 'central will,' perhaps - and I am living literally in the obsession of divine realization. This is what I want, nothing else, it is the only goal in life, and at last I have understood (not with the head) that the outer realization in the world will be the consequence of the inner realization. So thousands of times a day, I repeat, 'Mother, I want to be your instrument, ever more conscious, I want to express your truth, your light. I want to be what you want, as you want, when you want.' There is in me now a kind of need for perfection, a will to abolish this ego, a real understanding that to become your instrument means at the same time to find the perfect plenitude of one's personality. So I am living in an almost constant state of aspiration, ,,,
Mother, I am seeing all the mean pettiness that obstructs your divine work. Destroy my smallness and take me unto you. May I be sincere, integrally sincere. With infinite gratitude, I am your child. –Satprem

At present, I am in Pondicherry to participate in an International Conference on Quebec Studies. Today, I met Jean-Pierre CUQ, one of my Professors of the Stendhal University of Grenoble (France), who is also the President of the International Association of Teachers of French. I visited the Ashram School and ‘Knowledge’. I had been a ‘best student of the year’ of the Ashram School. I had pleasant interactions with some of my teachers and classmates. As a student, I used to correspond regularly with the Mother in French and

Social Philosophy of Sri Aurobindo and the New Age by Kishor Gandhi—an Appraisal by RY Deshpande Comment posted by: auroman
Whatever be the case, we have to go beyond nationalities instead of strutting our roots and culture.  The psychic transformation takes us beyond insecurity and pride.  Work on that and stop thinking about "who was better than whom"…
No, you are not being asked to renounce your culture but if we truly lived to the values of Sanatana Dharma, we would be able to enlarge and integrate the other communities into a greater harmony.  It takes two sides to fight.  If you persist in differentiating yourself from the other side, then the conflict continues.
If you were in Chidambaram's place, you might have done the same thing. Politics demands pragmatism to deflect volatile situations.  If you first win he confidence of the minorities who are feeling disempowered, you may be able to attempt a reconciliation with the majority later.  But if you keep forcing the minority to accept the majority, then the situation stays explosive…
No. it is pragmatism and statecraft .
There is a veil between the higher and lower gradations which effectively allows the forms active in Matter-Life and Mind, and subject to the experience of the desire soul, to respond as if they are separate, distinct and individual through ignorance of the unity that pervades all existence. The rending of that veil, and the experience of the oneness effectively puts us in touch with the true psychic being, the true soul, and we experience the undivided consciousness of Unity, even while potentially remaining cognizant of and active in the Multiplicity.

Even now it is on record from the writings of Sri Aurobindo that one man’s perfection can save the world. When we see that a single man, Churchill, saved Europe from Nazi domination and a single individual Mahatma Gandhiji forced the British to hand over power to India, we must admit the truth of Sri Aurobindo’s statement. The emerging spiritual individual will be more powerful than mere mortals like Churchill and Gandhi. As such the impact of their personalities on the world will be even greater. So we can definitely say that the current trend towards greater individualism only bodes well for the future of humanity and as such it should be encouraged.
