Heehs, Hitler, & Human Unity

M. N. Roy: Marxism and Colonial Cosmopolitanism (Pathfinders) This idea of the cult of humanity emanated from the Positivist notion of the religion of humanity formulated by Auguste Comte, which had a great reception in Calcutta particularly from the 1880s onwards. A World Of Mind Opens Up New Powers of Sensation and Action 10 Feb 2010 by sriaurobindostudies
The world of mind clearly frees itself from the limitations of material substance and thus opens up these and potentially many more options for freer action of mind in its own native capacities. reference: Sri Aurobindo, The Life Divine ...
Bottom of Form
Ananda Reddy to Pavitra The battle that is being fought is not only against one man but a whole dangerous psychoanalytic approach to Sri Aurobindo, especially in the USA.
The battle has to bring about changes not only by demolishing the old but by installing in the Ashram itself such strong and foolproof measures which will not allow such asuric forces to raise their heads once again. The first shots of this battle were heard in 1986-87 when Pranabda and Jugalda had raised their voices against such tendencies in the works coming out of Archives. But not much attention was given to their intuitions. Now the proportions of the mischief have taken a terrifying form and it has to be countered by an inner force of faith and conviction fountaing [sic] out of the devotees and the alumni of SAICE. If we can’t push back the evil now it may be too late. Peter is only a tool in the hands of the anti-Sri Aurobindo forces and maybe he himself is not aware of it just as Hitler was in the constant sway of the Asura but he did not know about it until the end.
The damage wrought by the book by Peter is surely temporary and Their work will be accomplished even if there are a hundred thousand Peters on earth. But the effect of the book would be to delay further Their work just as Hitler's victory would have delayed Their work by few thousand years. The book would provide fodder to the modern tendencies of denigrating spiritual personalities and create mischief in wide circles. That is my fear and that is why I have signed my name in the Army of Light of the Mother. Love, Ananda Reddy dated September 18, 2008. [Sri Aurobindo and world events Sraddhalu Ranade]

Upholding a Tradition of Tolerance By AKASH KAPUR Published: February 11, 2010 New York Times
I live in a part of
India that has absorbed a disproportionate number of Western immigrants over the last few decades. Pondicherry is a former French colony, a seaside town that draws expatriates to its clean streets and parks, easy pace of life and cheap beer. Auroville, at the edge of Pondicherry, is an international city with over 2,000 residents, more than half of whom are non-Indian.
I grew up around here, surrounded by farmers and fishermen whose worldviews are very different from those of the Americans and Germans and French who have trickled in since the 1960s. Life in the villages was — and, to a significant degree, still is — governed by rigid social rules and traditional norms that determine how people act, eat, marry and dress.
Ever since I was a boy, I have seen European women in tank tops and shorts drive motorcycles through villages where women wouldn’t even dream of wearing pants.
Down at the beach, semi-naked tourists sunbathe while fishermen oil their motorboats and women in saris sort through the day’s catch.
The juxtaposition of cultures has often been incongruous, even tense, but I can’t recall more than a handful of instances where it has broken out into overt hostility or cultural jingoism. I certainly don’t know of a time when a government official has proposed a law regulating how foreigners dressed.
... Indian tolerance has deep roots. The Vedas, a body of texts believed to be around 3,000 years old, proclaim that “truth is one; the wise call it by many names.” The Rig Veda, considered the oldest, similarly teaches that “good thoughts come to us from all sides.”

Has anyone done a study of the Ashram's contribution to global warming?  Has anyone measured, invasively or otherwise, the emissions of Ashram inmates ?  I ask because, instead of this Heehs book issue, we could use global warming as a springboard to destabilize the administration by demonstrating the ineptitude of the Trustees in handling environmental concerns.  Once we gain control of the Ashram, we could then build a grand new temple for daily prayers and announce a new religion.

Prabhat Poddar, geo-biologist and architect based in Pondicherry, says there is an invisible energy that flows through the universe—through our body, the food we eat, our home, workplace and the air that surrounds us. It is known as prana in India, chi in China and ki in Japan.
There seems to be an invisible equation that operates between the elements outside, the elements within the individual and his living and working space, and any imbalance in the interplay of these forces can result in chaos. While the first two are near constants, the third is a variable.
So how healthy is your home? Poddar says our well-being is related to the direction we face, the materials used, colour, decorative plants, flowers and objects that we use inside and outside our homes, our reaction to situations, stress, the food we eat, the gems, jewellery and clothes we wear. He quotes Sri Aurobindo in The Foundations of Indian Culture: “True happiness in this world is the right terrestrial aim of man, and true happiness lies in the finding and maintenance of a natural harmony of spirit, mind and body. A culture is to be valued to the extent to which it has discovered the key to this harmony and organised its expressive motives and moments.”
